Gamble With Your Friends Online Fix

Start here when Steam invites, lobbies, versions, controller input, or modded sessions stop the group from playing.

Symptoms, causes, and fix steps

Work from the simplest state reset toward network and mod isolation. Do not change every setting at once.

Steam invite does not open the lobby

Overlay, privacy, or stale session state.
  1. 1.Restart Steam and the game for every player.
  2. 2.Make sure Steam Overlay is enabled for the game.
  3. 3.Have the host recreate the lobby and send a fresh invite.
  4. 4.Check whether the invited player is appearing online in Steam friends.

Still not working?

Switch host and test a two-player lobby before adding the full group.

Lobby is not showing

Region, privacy, or host connectivity issue.
  1. 1.Confirm all players are on the same game version.
  2. 2.Disable VPN temporarily and test again.
  3. 3.Ask the host to use a wired or more stable connection if possible.
  4. 4.Check Windows firewall prompts after restarting the game.

Still not working?

Let another player host, then compare whether the original host has a network-specific issue.

Version mismatch

One player has not updated or has a different branch.
  1. 1.Close the game for all players.
  2. 2.In Steam, check Downloads and force update if needed.
  3. 3.Verify game files from Steam properties.
  4. 4.Disable beta branches unless the whole group intentionally uses one.

Still not working?

Have every player restart Steam, then compare the build date on the game page.

Mods conflict or lobby instability

Different mod sets or outdated community files.
  1. 1.Test a clean unmodded lobby first.
  2. 2.Re-enable mods one at a time.
  3. 3.Make sure every player has the same mod version.
  4. 4.Remove old config files only after backing up settings.

Still not working?

Keep a vanilla profile for public or achievement-focused runs.

Controller or Steam Deck issue

Input layout, Proton configuration, or focus issue.
  1. 1.Test keyboard and mouse first to separate input from network problems.
  2. 2.Try the default Steam Input layout.
  3. 3.Restart from Gaming Mode if using Steam Deck.
  4. 4.Avoid changing controller templates while already inside a lobby.
